Boat Fire

Sat. Jul 25th 2009

On Saturday July 25th, at 6:29pm Lakeville Fire units were dispatched to a reported boat fire at Port Sonoma, located off of Highway 37. Due to the nature of the call, additional resources from Novato and Petaluma Fire Departments were also requested.

When the first Lakeville engines arrived, they found a 26 foot sailboat with the passenger compartment, completely engulfed in flames. The Lakeville units were able to put the fire out before the fire could spred to adjacent boats and dock. . The boat was not occupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Engineer Tony Ruegg reported that the boat appeared to be in the process of being remodeled, and that may have contributed to the cause of the fire. There has been no official cause of the fire. The incident is under investigation.
