Letter from President 

Greetings and Happy New Year Citizens of Lakeville:  It seems like just yesterday I was preparing my presidents letter for our 2009 newsletter and here it is 2010! I am pleased to report that the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department continues to make great progress towards our goals in 2009. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Board of Directors, Chief Silva, and the Firefighters, the department has been focused on improving and expanding is abilities to not only fight fires, but handle many other emergencies form medical aide to hazardous materials situations. 

In 2009 we welcomed a new member to our Board of Directors Jim Ish who lives in Lakeville with his wife Barbara. Jim provides us with his expertise of many years as a volunteer firefighter. Jim also has been very helpful with our two fund raising events given his many years experience with fund raising with the Native Sons Lodge. Then he is also a accomplished builder helping with firehouse renovations. Jim is an important and welcome addition of our fire department.

This last June we ventured into a new fund raising area, we had a chicken BBQ, it was held on June 26^th at Penngrove Park. We had a good turnout of guests and it was a learning experience for all of us involved with hosting it. Look for it again later this year and we will try to make it even better.

We saw some changes in 2009. We retired our old faithful mid 60's Chevy firetruck 9771. That truck served Lakeville for many years and it was always a welcome site to see it pull up to an emergency. We decided it only be fitting to retire the truck with dignity and we voted to sell the truck to Ken Altenreuther for $1.00, as Ken spent a lot of time with old 9771. Ken plans on taking the truck to his property in Nevada.

 With 9771 gone we are utilizing the space it took at the firehouse for storage of extra equipment. We also purchased a 28 foot office trailer that is placed at the firehouse for meetings, and trainings. We are trying to make the firehouse the center of the department. To that end we hope to erect a temporary shelter there for our type one engine. That would make all three of our most used trucks located right at the firehouse.

 As president of the Board of Directors I always ask myself “will this decision before us benefit the citizens of Lakeville?” The Board of Directors is here to serve you our citizens in the best way we possibly can with the funds we have available. Thank for allowing me to be the president of the Board of Directors. Have a good safe 2010.
